Rajagiriya flyover to be open next month; more flyovers soon

The Rajagiriya flyover is to be declared open next month and more flyovers will be constructed at other locations around Colombo soon, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said today.

He said that road traffic congestion is having a negative impact on the economy and it needs to be addressed soon.

The Prime Minister said that while there is severe traffic in Rajagiriya as a result of the work being carried out on the new flyover, that traffic is only temporary.

He said that President Maithripala Sirisena will declare open the Rajagiriya flyover next month as the work will be completed ahead of schedule.

The Prime Minister made these comments after inspecting the flyover today with Deputy Minister. Dr. Harsha de Silva.

The Prime Minister said that steps are being taken to construct a flyover near the Kelaniya bridge to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

He said that more flyovers will be constructed in other areas as well and this will help strengthen the economy of the country.
