HEAVY RAIN IN THE SOUTH WEST WILL CONTINUE, WARNINGS FOR THE PUBLIC TO BE VIGILANT DURING STRONG WINDS

The Met Department states that showers in the South Western part of the island will continue today.

However, those showers are likely to reduce to a certain degree  tomorrow.

Showers or thunderstorms will occur periodically in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

Fairly heavy rainfall, about 100mm, are expected, particularly in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa districts.

Duty Meteorologist  Nadeeka Ranaweera requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning.

Landslide warnings have been issued to Galle, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts.
